Monday of the First Week of Advent (C)

In today’s Gospel (cf. Matthew 8:5-11), we witness the profound faith of a Roman centurion who approaches Jesus, seeking healing for his paralyzed servant. The centurion, a man of authority, humbly recognizes the true authority of Christ. He says, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word, and my servant will be healed.” His deep faith and trust in Jesus’ word alone astonish even Christ, who declares, “I have not found such faith in Israel.”

This encounter reminds us that true faith transcends status, power, or worthiness. Like the centurion, we are called to trust entirely in Jesus’ power and mercy. His words teach us that faith is not about deserving God’s grace but believing in His love and authority.

Looking at today’s Gospel, we might ask ourselves: Do we have the humility and trust of the centurion? When we face challenges, are we confident that Christ’s word alone is enough to heal and guide us?

May we echo the centurion’s prayer in our own lives, acknowledging our need for God and trusting in His boundless compassion.
