Tuesday of the 17th Week in Ordinary Time

Tuesday, July 30, 2024

In today’s Gospel (cf. Matthew 13:36-43), Jesus elucidates the parable of the weeds and the wheat. He reveals that the good seeds are the children of the kingdom, sown by the Son of Man, while the weeds are the children of the Evil One, sown by the devil. This parable challenges us to reflect on the state of our own hearts and the choices we make daily.

In our lives, we encounter many opportunities to grow as wheat, nurtured by God’s grace, love, and the power of prayer. Yet, we also face temptations and influences that seek to lead us astray, like the weeds sown by the enemy. It is in our response to these challenges that our true nature is revealed.

The parable reminds us that while both wheat and weeds may grow together, the final judgment belongs to God. Our task is to strive to be the good seed, to cultivate our hearts with prayer, and to seek God’s guidance in all things. Let us pray for the strength to resist temptation and to grow in righteousness, bearing good fruit for the kingdom of God. May we always remember that through Christ, the true sower, we are called to be children of light in a world that often seems darkened by sin.
